GT Car Sticker
GT – a direct appropriation of the GB sticker for British cars travelling abroad – was originally created in conjunction with a series of signed car boots for sale at London’s 2007 Art Car Boot Sale. A stamp of the artist’s authority but also a subversion of what it means to be British, GT is an irreverent homage to the archetypal white van driver who recurs in Turk’s work as short hand for Britain as a nation of white, male, working class traders, with whom the artist is now intrinsically associated as a different kind of jobbing trader.
