Flea Drawing

2009

Turk’s Flea Drawings were conceived and created for fellow artist, Rob Pruitt’s 2009 Flea Market at London’s Tate Modern. As with Turk’s Art Car Boot sale creations, Flea Drawing is a literal pun on the idea of the flea market, in the process, Turk juxtaposes the idea of selling art with the traditional flea market’s sale of worthless ephemera and rubbish in order to question the criteria for how we judge the value of things. A drawing of a parasite, the flea also becomes a poetic metaphor for the parasitical relationship between commerce and art.
